Books

Giving you an overview of publishers’ book policies to help authors and research organisations make informed and confident decisions in open access publishing and compliance.

How do I use books?

To find your publisher's open access policy, select 'Publisher' in the search bar. Choose the policy for a monograph, edited collection, or chapter, and scroll to the manuscript version you need (published, accepted, or submitted).

Publishers typically offer:

  • Paid open access (Gold): Immediate open access with a fee.
  • Self-archiving (Green): Free with restrictions like embargo periods and limited repositories.
  • Diamond open access: Immediate open access with no fees.

If funding for paid open access isn't available, authors can use the self-archiving route to meet funder mandates. Check with your institution about open access funding. Many publishers have agreements with universities for models like subscribe to open or diamond open access.

Open policy finder is a reference guide. Authors should review their funder and publisher policies to ensure compliance.
